With the prominent state visit to SA of Queen Elizabeth in that same year, the dance company sprang into distinction when they became the first traditional group to perform to Her Majesty.
Using a unique brand of neo generation performers in traditional dance style, the New Generation Dancers were incepted. They have yet to look back.
Based at Eastern Cape's legendary and world renowned
Shamwari Game Reserve, under the watchful eye of Rev. Maqina the group's
in-house entertainment for tourists and locals alike in a simulated Arts and Culture village has transformed the groups popularity from national to international status.
In the past nine years they have regularly been invited to perform in Denmark, Greece and France. A separate group has even gathered an indefinite contract in Tunisia after having been invited over as guest artists.
With Rev. Maqina's specialised comprehension of varying traditional dance styles, he was the first South African to produce a fusion ensemble of Xhosa, Khoisan, Indian, Zulu and Tswana dance. Having originally mastered a drama group in the early 1970's known as the "Ma Afrika Players",
Rev. Maqina battled trial and tribulation when many of his productions were nationally banned and he was placed under house arrest. Two decades later a masterful group was formed which has enticed the likes of international stars such as John Travolta, Tiger Woods, Margret Thatcher and ex-US president Jimmy Carter, among others.
They co-produced a musical called "Umuzi", which was developed for "Habitat for Humanity"and was performed in Durban. They also created an Aids musical which was performed for PE Technikon, and a musical production depicting the story of the 5th battle of the Frontier Wars, called "Nxele-Makana",
was staged with a successful run at the Port Elizabeth Opera House. Their marimba band, a popular subsection of the talented group, was also exclusively invited to perform at Fan Court during the prestigious annual President's Golf Championship last year.
The theatre company, which boasts a large group of performing artists catering for general and specialised needs in the corporate arena, remains top choice for local, national and international requirements for anyone seeking true African cultural entertainment.
In October 2004, the New Generation dancers collaborated with Centrestage to add choreographed dance sequences to the show
The African Melting Pot - Proudly South African - Celebrating 30 years of musical diversity.

The group is available to be booked individually or in conjunction with the show.
